1. University of Nairobi
University of Nairobi (UoN) is a collegiate research university based in Nairobi Kenya. It is one of the largest universities in Kenya. Although its history as an educational institution dates back to 1956, it did not become an independent university until 1970. 2. Kenyatta University
Kenyatta University,is a public university located in Nairobi Kenya.It is the second largest public university in the country (after University of Nairobi). The University is located in Kahawa, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Nairobi�s city centre, along the Nairobi-Thika road.The history of Kenyatta University began in 1965 when the British Government handed over the Templar Barracks to the newly formed government of Kenya. The Barracks were then changed into a college known as Kenyatta College. Initially, the College was divided into two; the Secondary Education Division and the Teacher Education Division, which started by offering the three-year Post - Ordinary level Secondary Teacher�s Certificate.

3. Egerton University
Egerton University is the oldest institution of higher learning in Kenya. It was founded as a Farm School in 1939 by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, a British national who settled in Kenya in the 1920s.In 1950, the School was upgraded to an Agricultural College offering diploma programmes. The Egerton Agricultural College Ordinance was enacted in 1955. In 1979, the Government of Kenya and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded a major expansion of the institution.

Moi University is a public university located in Eldoret town in western Kenya. It was the second public university to be established in Kenya, after the University of Nairobi. Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a private, multi-campus, chartered university in Kenya. It is one of the largest private universities in the country.The institution was founded in 1996 as Thika Institute of Technology. In 2000, the Institute developed into a commercial college offering management and computer training programmes. Later in the year the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology recognized the institute as a full-fledged institution of higher learning and granted it a full registration approval.
